Engineering Manager

Position Overview

The Engineering Manager will oversee a team of 3 Designers/Engineers and perform design work using Inventor and AutoCad Mechanical. A balance of 50% leading and 50% designing is likely. Must be able to create Bills of Materials and process design changes in an ERP environment. An Engineering Leader who is a great manager but is no longer interested or skilled in 3D design work would not be a good fit. RMG is seeking a creative Design Engineer with machine design experience to oversee design, Project Manage as well as prioritizing machine development in R&D efforts with Sales and Marketing.

 

The successful candidate will work in an established team environment to develop both standard and custom machine designs and associated engineering drawings to satisfy customer requirements. Typical projects include ferrous wire processing machinery, including; wire drawing machines, wire straightening and cutting machines, wire payoff machinery and customized machinery.

 

Traits: The ideal candidate would be able to design at the detailed level (hands on), problem solve at the system while leading a design team of three. Understanding customer requirements and coming up with solutions within our core skills but outside the current product offering is important to our growth goals. Motivated by challenging tasks, and continued learning/self-improvement; talented in conceiving and creating solutions; proficient with best-practice implementation of commercially available componentry. A team player with good articulation, technical writing ability, and clearly communicates design intent onto drawings. Will need to work closely with other VP peers in Sales, Manufacturing, Purchasing and Finance. Coordination of design and bills of material with internal and external resources through to project completion. Willingness to develop competency with design-team leadership and task planning, inter-disciplinary coordination, equipment integration, build and start-up procedures.

 

Proficiency

  • Past supervisory experience is required.
  • Mentoring, motivating and holding others accountable are important.
  • Ensures progress is made on Engineering goals and quarterly key results.
  • Lead a portfolio of R&D projects.
  • Support marketing initiatives to develop new products.
  • Willing to travel to customers and major trade shows.
  • Working knowledge of machine components including; materials, fastening or joining techniques, mechanical fabrication & machining processes, pneumatics & hydraulics systems.
  • Have skills in or willing to develop skills in general dimensioning & tolerancing, drafting standards, codes, safety, automation, mechanical and electrical troubleshooting.
  • Experience with a 3D design tool like Inventor, SolidWorks, Creo or NX.
  • Familiar with VF drives, PLCs and IPCs. Some electrical panel design experience would be nice to have.
  • PLC programming skills desired
  • Project management experience. Able to manage the project until the machine or system has shipped.
  • Equipment Knowledge: Machine tool or assembly equipment.
  • EPR system, Epicor being used

 

Required Experience

  • Mechanical Engineering degree or Electrical Engineering degree.
  • Self-directed but humble enough to learn from others.
  • Perform machine design endeavors from concept to completion.
  • Minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience. Minimum of 10 years of design experience.

Manual Machinist (DeVlieg)

Job Description:

Join our 1st shift team, 6:30 am – 3:00 pm. The Manual Machinist will set up and operate our DeVlieg machines mostly so DeVlieg experience is a must. Other machines may include Bridgeport type machines, lathes, & large radial drilling machines. Local candidates only please.

Job Responsibilities:

  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent education.
  • Ability to read, follow and understand prints, manufacturing instructions and quality plans.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written work instructions.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of work situations.
  • Mathematical ability – basic math calculations (addition, subtractions, multiplication and division), work with whole numbers, fractions and decimals.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Able to stand for long periods at a time.
  • Able to safely lift 70 lbs.
  • Good manual dexterity.

Equipment Knowledge:

  • Machinist tools.
  • Overhead crane operation.
  • Manual machines.
  • Basic computer use.
